Dare County to Host Household Hazardous Waste Collection May 12-14

The Dare County Department of Public Works has announced that it will be hosting a three-day household hazardous waste collection event May 12-14, 2022, at three different locations across the county.

During this event, Dare County residents and property owners can drop off hazardous waste for safe disposal at the following locations:

  • North Beach Collection: Kitty Hawk Town Hall (101 Veterans Memorial Drive), 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, May 12, 2022
  • Buxton-Collection: Buxton Transfer Station, (47015 Buxton Back Road) from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday 13 May 2022
  • Manteo Collection: Dare County Public Works (1018 Driftwood Drive), 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 14, 2022

Dare County residents can use any of the three locations listed above during the three-day household hazardous waste collection event.

Please note that this hazardous waste collection is only for residents of Dare County (both property owners and year-round residents) and the farming community/farmers of Dare County.

ACCEPTED MATERIALS:

Materials that will be accepted at all collection locations include paints, varnishes, varnishes, paint related materials, turpentine, spray cans, adhesives, motor oil, antifreeze, additives for fuel, household cleaners, herbicides and insecticides, gasoline, mercury, pesticides. , pool chemicals, fluorescent bulbs, automotive batteries, small batteries and automotive fluids.

MATERIALS NOT ACCEPTED:

Materials that are generally not accepted include commercial, commercial, and industrial waste, as well as explosives, bullets, radioactive materials, 55-gallon material drums, and bottles (other than propane and fire extinguishers).

Residents and property owners of Dare County are urged to mark all unlabeled containers that will be deposited during the collection of hazardous household waste.
