Oteyza Fall 2022 Men’s Collection

The Spanish brand Oteyza has charted its new course with its previous collection. Amid the pandemic last year, founders Paul García de Oteyza and Caterina Pañeda opted to take a more laid-back approach. “It all started with our spring collection El Caminante,” said García de Oteyza. “Now we just follow what we started.”

The duo are determined to put Spanish craftsmanship in the spotlight, but from an avant-garde point of view. They did it with a mix of bespoke pieces and technical fabrics like neoprene. The asymmetrical capes and double-breasted suits were inspired by the French painter Nicolas de Staël. “Our last collections were very focused on the campaign and its palette. We missed the ocean, so we went for a collection full of navy blue and white, and fisherman hats,” said García de Oteyza. “De Staël was very fond of asymmetrical shapes, delicate shapes and touches of color, and so are we.”

Capes have indeed been a hallmark of Oteyza for a long time, but this time around these signature pieces shared space with more accessible items like sweatshirts and striped tees. “We kept the standards high and the materials – like mohair wool, silks or even rawhide for the backpacks – but we wanted to move forward.” The result was a collection of looks suitable for the city.
