Regional District of Nanaimo Alerts Residents to Ongoing Collection Cart Scam
The caller is impersonating an RDN official
The Regional District of Nanaimo is alerting residents to an ongoing scam.
The RDN received a notice from a resident who was called by an individual posing as a Regional District representative. They then told the resident that they owed money for curbside solid waste collection carts.
The RDN does not charge residents for curbside carts and service charges are only collected directly by the RDN or through utility bills from municipal partners.
The resident followed the RDN’s recommended course of action, which is to hang up and call the RDN directly. Residents are advised not to provide credit card or other personal information unless you have appealed to the RDN. Residents can also report suspicious calls to the RCMP or the fraud hotline at 1-888-495-8501.
The public can contact the RDN with questions about the services or other questions at 250-390-4111, toll-free at 1-877-607-4111 or requests@rdn.bc.ca.
