Use Pikitup’s free bulky waste collection service

Residents are encouraged to become active participants in preserving and protecting the environment by using Pikitup’s free bulky collection service for all unwanted household waste.

According to spokesperson Muzi Mkhwanazi, with this service, the municipal entity aims to divert recyclable waste from landfills, thereby increasing the life of the landfill.

“This service was introduced with the primary purpose of trying to tackle illegal dumping which is an eyesore and an environmental problem in all seven regions of the city.”

The types of bulky waste that can be collected directly from households through this service include old mattresses, old furniture, disused or old refrigerators, and other electrical and non-electrical items.

“Residents wishing to dispose of bulky household waste are advised to contact their nearest Pikitup depot or use the nearest nearby garden sites,” Mkhwanazi said.

Once a resident has registered a call with the depot, the responsible depot manager will book a call and arrange the free service, once a month, to collect bulky waste.
